From the words and lives of the day’s two honorary degree recipients to the reminiscences of each member of the class of 2011 to the comments of teachers and staff, June 25, 2011, was a day of inspiration and encouragement, especially from commencement speaker and honoree Majora Carter. She spoke compellingly of “Home(town) Security,” while her fellow honoree Nancy Jack Todd commented beautifully on the need for subtle fit between design and place. Conway Director Paul Cawood Hellmund focused on redoing, restoring, and reforming as crucial elements of design and planning today. Humanities professor Ken Byrne offered reasons for hope in the face of sometimes dire environmental and social problems.
