Molly Hutt and Christina Puerto, both class of 2012, are working on a master plan for a 1500-hectare property near Cauquenes, Chile. The property, owned by Pamela Hurtado ’08, produces grapes, olives and wood products. The proposed sustainable management plan could become a model for other landowners in the region. Conway undertook a similar project in Chile in 2008, but with a much broader regional focus. The students will travel to Chile in late December, and spend two weeks meeting with clients, obtaining site data and conducting field reconnaissance before returning to Conway for the duration of the 2012 winter term.
Before enrolling at Conway, Molly was Field Manager for Parterre Garden 
Services on Cape Cod, providing management and gardening assistance for residential properties. She received a BS in Horticulture from Montana State University in 2002, spent a semester in Nepal where she studied biodiversity in the Himalayas, and led adolescents on wilderness survival expeditions in the Idaho desert. Molly lived with her family in Mexico City for several years in her youth.
Christina Puerto graduated from Skidmore College in 2011 with a BA in 
Environmental Studies. Her independent study in agroecology focused on the use of allelopathic cover crops to control weeds organically. Additional work experiences while in college included working with a land trust in Saratoga and monitoring energy use for clients of a solar store. Christina grew up in New Jersey.
