The Conway School supports Black Lives Matter. We are appalled by the reality that in contemporary US society, black and brown people lose their lives at the hands of police officers, public guardians of the people who with unjustified violence wage war with the population. Any government that funds, sanctions, and perpetuates this violence, that arms police departments with military weapons and trains them to see the populace as sub-humans and as threats, does not represent us. We advocate for an educational system in which the relationships between historical injustices, racism, slavery, economic exploitation, environmental degradation, and state-sanctioned violence are acknowledged, and we advocate for a society in which the conditions of existence of this violence are challenged and removed. Respect for our fellow humans and acknowledgement of our common humanity must be the foundation of a society that is just, peaceful, and good.
