The FARM Institute is approximately 0.4 miles north of Martha’s Vineyard’s southern coast. The farm lies between Edgartown Great Pond and Katama Bay. Its level terrain and proximity to the coastline and several major water bodies leaves the site exposed to constant maritime winds. However, the ocean also moderates temperatures on the island, keeping it cooler in summer and warmer in the winter (USDA hardiness zone 7a). The site consists of 175 acres, 9.5 of which are used as the farm’s main campus and are the primary focus of this master plan.
